SME member shares insights
TDT members had a wonderful time touring Electro Mechanical Solutions (EMS) with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Thursday night. Not only was the manufacturing plant a model, state of the art facility, it was also a model of Gracious Professionalism, with employees who on hand after hours during the evening tour to run machineryso SME and TDT members could get a good working look at laser cutters, a TIG welder, a press brake and, the icing on the cake for TDT students, a fantastically efficient robotic arm employed in moving silicon wafers in a vacuum chamber.
The robot is a far cry from our comparative bucket of bolts — a swift and silent “hybrid” to our rumbling, clanking “diesel”, said one of our students. The tour was made even more meaningful for students with the engaging help of SME members, who took them aside at various points in the tour to show them things more closely or explain a process in greater detail.
At the end of the tour, Society of Manufacturing Engineer president, Don Patz, presented Team Duct Tape with a donation towards our World Championship trip. We deeply appreciate SMEs support and encouragement and are proud to add them to our growing list of sponsors. We’re looking forward to visiting SME again after we get back from Atlanta, to show them our robot and talk about our experiences in Atlanta.
Thank you Society of Manufacturing Engineers!
