The Latest on Robots that Learn

Thirty-nine days (39!) and counting till the new season kick-off on September 10th! Just to whet your appetite for all things robotic, check out this great story about the Japanese robot, HIRO, featured in TechCrunch today:

When confronted with a new problem, HIRO tries to “remember” past actions and accesses stored information in order to solve it (in the simulated environment shown in the clip below, HIRO is preparing a glass of cold water by itself). It also can be “taught” to do certain tasks, and it’s able to learn and react by analyzing the world around him (video and audio data).

While that’s not necessarily new, it’s definitely improved – HIRO can also take the next step and ” connect to other sources to obtain more information to solve problems.”
