It’s been a long hot summer (actually, it’s still hot – we’re in Florida!), but school starts back for most of our members next week, and with the FTC Season Kick-Off just three weeks away (actually: 19 days, 22 hours and change, as of this writing, according to the countdown clock at http://www.flfirst.org ), it was clearly time for our end of summer cook out and pre-season party!
As with all things TDT, we don’t just work hard and compete vigorously, we eat well and play together, too. (although it’s all play, isn’t it? “The Hardest Fun You’ll Ever Have!“) Two of our new members joined us for our cook out – Audi and Johnny (our third new member, Cody, went on the Tampa Bay Innovation Center Tour with us.) You’ll get to meet all of them – and two TDT middle school apprentices! – soon.
But Saturday was just a day for fun and games and good eats, and we had plenty of all three. There was a little Wii golf, a wild and wooly assortment of pool games and a seemingly endless supply of food, thanks to TDT families, among which are some pretty spectacular cooks!
Next Saturday is our first official meeting, to go over season schedules and expectations, then we’ve got one more break over Labor Day weekend, and then… Let the games begin!
TDT members enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Tampa Bay Innovation Center in Largo yesterday. TBIC personnel were warm and welcoming hosts, and gave TDT members an inside look at some interesting forensic and defense technologies used by law enforcement and the military worldwide.
- Work-life balance
- Academic excellence and one our teenaged team members felt gratified to see –
are all things we value and (hopefully!) utilize as a team.
Seeing all these great entrepreneurial traits in action (well, not the naps – everyone was pretty energetic at TBIC!) was interesting and exciting. We also enjoyed demoing our robot for TBIC members, and look forward to visiting again later in the season to showcase our new 2011-12 robot (whatever that may look like!)
What better way to get in the spirit of the new season than a hi-tech field trip! TDT made the acquaintance of the Tampa Bay Innovation Center earlier this summer, at coolTECH 2011, and is excited to have this opportunity to learn more about the cool things this great idea accelerator does.
We’ll be meeting with representatives from Field Forensics – which supports law enforcement, military and other government forensics laboratories and first responders with unique and patent-protected field sampling devices- and with Homeland Intelligence Techonologies – which provides emergency first response solutions.
Looks like the 2011-12 season is off to an inspiring start!
