Off to Super Regionals

The Super Regional Championship in San Antonio, Texas is finally here and the whole team is excited to be packing up and heading west. Team Duct Tape is looking forward to judging, setting up, meeting new people, and having FUN!

Special thanks to Sumo Software for hosting a fun and exciting Game Night to raise help money for our trip to San Antonio. There were hot-dogs, snacks, beverages, and a variety of games provided that made the night a blast!

While preparing to travel, we were able to make tons of buttons to hand out at the competition with a tremendous amount of help from parents. We were also able to make more things out of duct tape swag, practice for judging, and both drive teams were able to sharpen their skills on the field. With only minor changes to the robot and presentation board, this past week has flown by.

We cannot wait for these next few days and we wish the best of luck and safe travels to all of the teams that are going to Super Regionals!

Please Help FTC Team Duct Tape in the Engineering Our Future Contest!

“Engineering Our Future”  is a Rockwell Automation video contest for FIRST® teams to share big ideas for improving communities and our world. The goal of the contest is ” to ignite the imaginations of this next generation of innovators and get them thinking about how they will apply the engineering skills they’re learning through FIRST to make a difference in their communities and our world.”

Always up for a video contest, plus the possibility of being among the top teams Rockwell Automation will split $10,000 between, Team Duct Tape entered their answer to the question, “What could your team engineer that would have a positive impact on your community and our world?” –  A Fresnel Lens Water Purification System.  You can see their video below.

The contest is decided by popular vote, with each person permitted one vote once per day until the contest ends on Nov. 29th.  We hope you’ll consider our video and a vote for Team Duct Tape. You do not have to register or give out any information to vote.

In the News & On the Road – Next Up: Tampa Bay Engineers Week Banquet

Fresh from Lockheed Martin Eweek, TDT members are back to work with drive practice, and more outreach readiness, gearing up to exhibit at the Tampa Bay Engineers Week Banquet Friday night, and the USF Engineering Expo on Saturday.  In between, the team got some good press from 83 Degrees Media and The Laker , highlighting our journey to the FTC State Championship .

With three outreach events this week, team members are working in shifts to get everything ready for the State Championship.  Burning out motors during E-week demos added some new challenges, and the expense of 2nd day shipping to get replacements in on time, but we’re going full steam ahead, darn the torpedos!
